About Us
A Patient Reference Group (PRG) is a selection of patients and practice staff who meet at regular intervals to decide ways of making a positive contribution to the services and facilities offered by the practice to the patients and to act as a critical friend to the practice.
The purpose of a Patient Reference group:
- To give practice staff and patients the opportunity to discuss topics of mutual interest in their Practice.
- To provide the means for patients to make positive suggestions about the Practice and their own healthcare.
- To encourage health Education activities within the Practice.
- To develop self-help projects to meet the needs of fellow patients.
- To act as a representative group that can be called upon to influence the local provision of Health and Social Care.
- To give patients an opportunity to share areas of interest and concern and to bring these to the attention of the practice staff.
- To involve further patients from the wider population.
The Original PRG was established in October 2007. Currently there are 11 members, covering a wide range of ages. The PRG aims to be representative of the practice population. Key practice demographics are considered in the make-up of the patient group and will relate (but not be confined) to:
- Age
- Ethnicity
- Gender
- Occupation (or Employment status)
- Parental status
- Disabled status
- Carer status
The PRG is representative of the registered patients and where a category of patients is not represented, steps are taken to engage with those patients; The practice and participation group make a great effort to ensure that the group is representative of the local population.
